Use the Chinese zodiac year, not just the Western calendar year. The year label can be Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water, with a Yin or Yang polarity.
How the element-by-year cycle works
The Chinese zodiac combines 12 animals with 10 heavenly-stem patterns. Together they form a 60-year cycle. That is why labels repeat, but not every 12 years.
For example, 1990 is a Yang Metal Horse year, 2002 is a Yang Water Horse year, 2014 is a Yang Wood Horse year, and 2026 is a Yang Fire Horse year.

Common mistake
The common mistake is using a calendar-year chart for a January or February birthday. A person born on February 16, 2026 is not a Fire Horse yet because the 2026 Chinese zodiac year starts on February 17.

FAQ
Is the element by year the same as my personality element?
No. The year element is a birth-year label. The personality test is a separate self-reflection pattern.
Why do Horses have different elements?
The animal repeats every 12 years, but the element cycle changes. That is why Horse years can be Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, or Earth.
Is this a full Chinese astrology chart?
No. This is a simple cultural self-discovery tool, not a full BaZi or four-pillars reading.
